Blow Dry Summary

by Lies

When the little town of Keighley is chosen as the host of the annual British Hairdressing Championship, more than just a contest is inflicted on some inhabitants of the town. Both Phil Allen, his son Brian, his ex-wife Shelly and her girlfriend are confronted with a past they’ve been avoiding for ten years- especially when Ray Roberts, reigning Hairdressing Champion, arrives in Keighley for the contest- and brings his daughter Christina along.

Shelly, having been diagnosed with the terminal phase of cancer, decides to try her utmost best to get her ex-husband- once a famous competitor himself-, son and girlfriend into participating, while her son, Brian, tries to sort out things with Christina- who stands in front of a fateful choice; for or against her ambitious father.

Combining both comic and dramatic elements, this movie is, indeed, one of the rare gems of the last years, in which both American and British actors work together- and make the movie succeed. Alan Rickman, supremely acting the part of the hurt ex-husband in the role of Phil, especially manages to move his audience- because, through the relatively happy end, the move is especially carried by quite a few touching moments.

Of course, he’s nice to look at, too. Not to mention that voice.
