Lily in Love
(by Lies)
When famous playwright Lily Wynn, while looking for a suitable actor to play the lead in her new movie, gets introduced to the handsome Italian Roberto Terranova, she doesn’t have a clue that it is the masked face of her own husband, Fitzroy, she is falling in love with - or does she?
Said husband- an actor too- decided to alter his appearance and pose as an Italian in order to convince his wife that he, too, can be a kind, gentlemanlike figure as well. When, indeed, he gets hold of both the part and- gradually- of the writer’s heart as well, though, both Mr and Mrs Wynn finds themselves in a very unhappy situation.
“Lily in Love”- made in 1985- once more shows a delightful Maggie Smith in the role of the intelligent, in turn both tragic and entertaining, Lily, while Christopher Plummer does a nice job acting the part of her selfish, egocentric husband Fitzroy, but it is still Dame Maggie who, once more, manages to keep her audience fascinated all along.
Like the title says, she does indeed tell us the story of “Lily in Love”- but in love with whom?
